Caddo sheriff seeks auxiliary deputies Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator is seeking citizens to become involved in the Caddo Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary Deputy Program. Training for auxiliary applicants begins on April 2 and continues each Monday and Thursday evening through May 14. Classes will be held at Summer Grove Baptist Church . Auxiliaries are volunteers who are called upon to assist sworn deputies with duties including neighborhood patrols, traffic control, crowd control at special events, and providing emergency services when natural disasters occur. They have opportunities to assist with traffic escorts, sobriety checkpoints, administrative functions, and many other activities. Training for the auxiliary course is conducted by Caddo Parish deputies and includes instruction in patrol procedures, defensive driving, radio communications, first aid, hazardous materials, handling of evidence, media relations, and other law enforcement-related material. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, successfully pass a background check, possess a valid driver’s license, and have no criminal record.
