Caddo, Shreveport officials keeping eyes on Red River

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator, director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness for Caddo Parish, hosted a meeting this morning for local officials to discuss the current Red River flood levels and contingency plans to keep citizens and their property safe.

The Red River in Shreveport is expected to crest at 31 feet on Sunday. Officials with the National Weather Service said water being released from Broken Bow will flow into the Millwood Reservoir, and there is no planned release of water from Millwood at this time. The reservoirs downstream from Millwood also have no plans for significant water releases.

The Caddo Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will continue to monitor the situation and if needed use the emergency phone notification system to alert residents in areas that could potentially be impacted.

For citizens who would still like sandbags, Caddo Correctional Center inmates are filling bags that can be picked up at the Parish Department of Public Works at 1701 Monty Street in Shreveport from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week, Monday through Wednesday.
