The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is helping the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office rebuild its fleet of police vehicles by donating six units that were headed to auction.

LPSO lost 27 vehicles during historic flooding earlier this month. Twenty-two of the cars were marked units, forcing LPSO deputies to ride two deputies to a unit, said LPSO Chief Financial Officer Jamie Felder.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said the police-package Chevy Impalas had already been taken out of service in Caddo Parish and were headed to auction because of high mileage. They will be de-striped and outfitted with light bars and cages before being transported to south Louisiana later this week.

“During an emergency like this, police resources are stretched to their thinnest while the demand for our services continues to grow. We know how that feels, and we want to help lighten that load for Livingston Parish and its deputies however we can,” Prator said.

Six Caddo Sheriff’s deputies have been in Livingston Parish assisting with patrol duties since August 16. All are part of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Task Force, which is activated to assist other agencies during an emergency. The deputies are answering calls for service from citizens, have assisted flooded residents and made criminal arrests including some for looting, and today were dispatched to I-12 in response to a major crash (photos attached).
