Caddo Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a suspected murder-suicide that occurred earlier today at 9960 Scaife Road in Mooringsport, according to Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.
At 8:14 this morning, Shreveport Fire received a 911 call from a man at the Scaife Road residence requesting the Caddo Sheriff’s Office for a domestic situation. Detectives now believe that caller was 72-year-old Ken Vassar, who lived at the residence with his wife.
When patrol deputies arrived at the home 15 minutes later, they were met at the door by the family dog, who had also been shot. Inside the home they found both Vassar and his wife, 65-year-old Patricia Vassar, deceased from gunshot wounds. Detectives say evidence at the scene indicates that Vassar shot his wife before turning his handgun on himself. Both died at the scene. The motive is believed to be domestic.
The family dog was taken by a neighbor to North Shreveport Animal Hospital for treatment.
The case remains under investigation.
