Caregiver charged with ID theft and exploitation

EDWARDS, DOROTHY
DOB: 01/01/1981
Race: B   Sex: F
Height: 5.05   Weight: 220

A Shreveport woman was arrested for felony crimes after she stole the identity of the woman she was caring for, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Dorothy L. Edwards, 37, was arrested on Thursday and charged with exploitation of persons with infirmities and felony identity theft.

From September 2016 to December 2017, Edwards worked as a caregiver when she used the assets and identity of a 65-year-old woman with a physical disability to steal over $20,000.  An investigation by Sheriff’s Detective Casey Jones revealed Edwards activated several accounts in the victim’s name and paid several of her own bills using the victim’s bank accounts and credit cards.

Edwards is also accused of negotiating a forged check stolen from the victim’s sister to open a fraudulent bank account.

Edwards was booked in to the Caddo Correctional Center. Bond was set at $150,000.
