Caddo deputies are on the scene of a fatal crash that occured just before 7 p.m. tonight at the intersection of Simpson and Buncombe roads.
Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Vaitkus said a pickup with three occupants was southbound on Simpson when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled in front of an westbound 18-wheeler on Buncombe Road. The driver of the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two occupants were transported to University Health by Caddo Fire District #4. One - a juvenile - had non-life threatening injuries. The other - an adult female - is said to have severe injuries.
Following impact, the 18-wheeler traveled off the roadway and down an embankment before striking several trees. Both the driver and his passenger escaped injury.
The crash remains under investigation by the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit and the Patrol Division. Buncombe Road between Hwy. 169 and Woolworth Road is closed to thru traffic in both directions. No names have been released pending next of kin.
