Caddo Sheriff’s Office investigates morning shooting

Caddo Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting involving Shreveport police officers that occurred earlier this morning, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

The shooting happened around 8:35 a.m. just outside Shreveport city limits on George Road. A male, age 42, was shot and killed by police after he opened fire on officers.

At 8:28 a.m., Shreveport Police began receiving multiple phone calls from citizens regarding a male threatening a female with a gun. One caller stated they saw the couple in a car at Grimmett Drive and Airport Road and the woman was being held at gunpoint. SPD dispatched officers who located the car nearby. Witnesses said it appeared that the woman attempted to get out of the car near Ute and Grimmett. Officers behind the suspect’s vehicle then reported hearing shots fired.

SPD officers pursued the vehicle north on Grimmett to the Dixie-Shreveport Road and then to George Road. When they turned onto George, the suspect was exiting his car with a handgun and fired shots at the officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. No officers were injured.

The female, age 34, was found deceased in the vehicle.

Sheriff’s detectives are still investigating the connection between the man and woman and have not yet determined the circumstances that led to them being in the car together. Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
