Greenwood assailant arrested near El Paso Saturday
The man Caddo Parish Sheriff’s investigators believe stabbed a 46-year-old Greenwood woman a dozen times, slashed her throat and raped her in her residence late Wednesday was arrested by a Texas Highway Patrol officer near El Paso Saturday afternoon.
Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway said his investigators had obtained an arrest warrant charging Frederick Lavell Taylor, 27, of 8880 Greenwood Road, with attempted first degree murder and aggravated ***** The Sheriff said the warrant, which was broadcast to law enforcement agencies nationwide, set Taylor’s bond at $1 million.
Sheriff Hathaway said Taylor, who was arrested at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, will remain jailed in El Paso until he is returned to Caddo Parish. The Sheriff said it is not known if Taylor will be extradited from Texas or if he will waive extradition.
The Sheriff said Texas authorities told his investigators Taylor still had the Greenwood victim’s 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 when he was arrested.
Sheriff’s Investigator Jay Long said the assailant apparently surprised and attacked the woman sometime between 10:30 and 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in her residence in the 8800 block of Greenwood Road. Long said neighbors heard the woman scream for help and called 9-1-1.
Long said Sheriff’s deputies and Greenwood police officers arrived at the residence at about 11:20 p.m. Sheriff’s investigators and identification technicians were dispatched to the scene, as were emergency medical personnel from Caddo Fire District No. 3. The medical personnel treated the woman at the scene before the Life Air Rescue helicopter airlifted her to LSU Medical Center, where she is listed in good condition.
