Sheriff’s Summer Camp next week; Media Day is Tuesday

Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway’s 11^th Annual Summer Camp will get underway Monday as more than 125 boys ages 10-14 from throughout Caddo Parish are taken to the Garland Scout Ranch in northern DeSoto Parish.

Tuesday, June 15, will be Media Day at the Summer Camp, with activities beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reporters and photographers will be treated to lunch with the boys in the dining hall and there will be K-9 and Mounted Patrol demonstrations. Sheriff Hathaway will be on hand for interviews. Campers and counselors who are willing to be interviewed will also be available. While we can’t promise an appearance, we have asked the Life Air Rescue helicopter to do a fly-in at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Campers will begin arriving at the Norwela Council-run scouting facility mid-morning on Monday and will be returned home on Thursday. Media representatives are welcome to visit the facility anytime during the camp, but the media focus will be on Tuesday. If you wish to send someone to the camp before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, we’ll be happy to accommodate you. Simply let me know on Monday and I’ll make arrangements to meet you myself or have someone meet you to show you around. The boys will be participating in all the camp activities prior to lunch on Tuesday and will resume those activities after the demonstrations.
