Looking back on Fiscal Year 1996-97 showed that Caddo Correctional Center continued to be a hub of activity. Much was accomplished as we closed out our second full fiscal year of operation.

Besides providing typical jail-related services, we were busy with such tasks as hosting Governor Mike Foster and his wife for breakfast, as well as general training workshops for law enforcement agencies in the region.

Comparing 1996 (the first full year of operations at CCC) with 1994 (the last full year of operations at CDC), bookings were up by 60 percent. The increased inmate capacity of CCC made it possible for law enforcement agencies in Caddo Parish to continue to advance the philosophy of zero tolerance for crime in our local communities.

Our continuing challenges are threefold:

  1. We must continue to efficiently manage the bed space available so that interdiction against crime at the street level does not suffer.
  2. There is extreme competition in the regional job market. This makes our management efforts at CSO regarding recruitment and retention of deputies a top priority.
  3. Our quest for national accreditation will keep us focused on the professional aspects of daily jail operation.

We certainly have a rigorous agenda as we move into the next year, while we continuing to be a good neighbor in the community as well as a valuable partner in the criminal justice system's fight against crime.
