The Administration Bureau provides support services for the entire agency, as well as collecting the revenue that keeps us in operation. While most of this work is done "behind the scenes," it is vital to each and every employee. Each of us has a tendency to take for granted that our paychecks will be there, and that the necessary supplies and equipment will be available for our use. The Administration Bureau makes all of that happen.
We collect millions of dollars through the Tax and Civil Divisions. These two divisions are vital to all of Caddo Parish government, as they disburse money to public agencies and process the paperwork of the District Court.
The Accounting Division provides more than just payroll services -- they process travel documents, purchases, pension contributions, office supplies, telephone bills and other "unseen" support functions, all against strict deadlines. The same is true for our consolidated Purchasing Department. We just assume that food, supplies and equipment will be there when we need them, but our Purchasing staff assures that we have what we need.
And, can we think of a more pervasive tool than our computers? Every office, at every one of our 14 office locations (including our mobile command post) has at least one, if not several, computers. Our Caddo Correctional Center is fully dependent on computers, as are our Tax and Accounting functions. The Data Processing Division keeps us up and running, 24 hours a day, handling over 7,500 requests for service. We literally could not function without them.
During the past year, our Professional Development staff launched several innovative training programs, including the Roadside Scenario Training Program. Other law enforcement agencies have recognized the quality of these programs and have asked to be included in them.
Our comptroller and internal auditor also spent a busy year overseeing our financial affairs. This is as much a part of "the public trust" as making an arrest. We are fortunate to have two very capable accountants to see us through the fiscal year.
I am proud of the employees of this Bureau, who display their competence, integrity, and professionalism every day.
