Bones found on Red River sandbar

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office and Caddo Coroner’s Office are investigating the discovery of bones on a sandbar in Red River, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Deputies were alerted by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on Friday that a bone was found on the sandbar about a mile north of Cash Point Landing. The Caddo Sheriff’s Marine Unit located and collected the bone from the sandbar on Saturday and turned it over to the Caddo Coroner’s Office.

Today, deputies with the Marine Unit returned to the scene and found several more bones. It is not known if they are human remains.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Alan Davidson said the sandbar is located in the middle of Red River about 30 to 40 yards from the bank but is accessible by walking in shallow water from private property. The bones were located near a tree and other brush on the sandbar.
