Caddo Sheriff's deputies called to oil spill

Caddo sheriff's deputies responded to an oil spill on a lease just west of Greenwood earlier today.

It's estimated that about 10 barrels (400-500 gallons) of oil escaped when an above-ground line was cut by someone cutting grass in the area. It's not known how long the line has been leaking, but authorities say it could have been as long as two weeks. Some of the oil leaked into a nearby creek. Officials are in the process of containing the spill in the creek.

The spill was discovered today by the well operator for Eagle Productions in Greenwood. The well was shut down until repairs can be made.

In addition to sheriff's deputies, the Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene. The Department of Environmental Quality has been notified.
