Shreveport man sits in jail after stealing from the Sheriff

A Shreveport man was arrested Sunday after stealing more than $7,300 in pipe from the Caddo Parish Sheriff.

Johnny Henderson Jr., 51, was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for theft, criminal trespassing, and criminal property damage, after stealing pipe from Sheriff Steve Prator's farm on LA Hwy. 3049.

The Sheriff said he was on his way to Shreveport when he passed by his property and saw the gate was closed. A few minutes later, when headed back toward the farm, Prator passed a truck and trailer loaded with aluminum pipe that looked like property belonging to the Sheriff. Prator drove ahead to check the gate again and this time found it open.

Prator put out a broadcast for the truck and trailer, and then stopped the vehicle himself south of the George Road. The driver had pulled over to tighten the rope around the pipe. Prator ordered Henderson into custody while waiting on other deputies to arrive.

Prator said in addition to the stolen pipe valued at $7,300, Henderson had committed over $5,000 in property damage by cutting metal couplings off other pieces of pipe and leaving the damaged pieces behind. The trailer he used to haul the pipe was also stolen from a business on Grimmett Drive.

Henderson is no stranger to arrests for persons or property crimes. He has over 30 previous arrests for crimes including burglary and second-degree battery. He has been sentenced to prison on several occasions during his criminal career. His bond on the most recent charges has been set at $255,000.
