Chesapeake Energy becomes major contributor to Safety Town

Chesapeake Energy Corporation became the most recent supporter of Sheriff's Safety Town by committing $50,000 to the project's building fund.

Kevin McCotter, Chesapeake's corporate development director for Louisiana, and Paul Pratt and Sarie Joubert, public affairs managers, presented the first installment of the donation - $10,000 - to Sheriff Steve Prator during a gathering today at Safety Town. Chesapeake will have a classroom at Safety Town named in its honor in recognition of the company's support.

“Partnering with Sheriff’s Safety Town is a natural fit for Chesapeake because of our shared vision to ensure the safety of children for generations to come,” McCotter said about the donation.

Sheriff’s Safety Town is a child-sized educational facility where children will learn critical safety skills in a hands-on environment. The facility features an education building, small-scale streets, businesses, traffic lights, and a working railroad crossing where children will practice bicycle, pedestrian, and other traffic safety skills. It is the first facility of its kind in Louisiana.

Safety Town is located near Summer Grove Baptist Church at LA Hwy. 3132 and Jewella Avenue. It is tentatively set to open in November.
