Woman shot after being mistaken for an intruder

A Keithville woman is recovering from a gunshot wound after she was mistaken for an intruder at her home on Wednesday night.

Denise Giddens, 40, was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center after being shot in the stomach by her brother, Michael Henderson.

Henderson said he'd been staying with his sister at her residence in the 8300 block of Godfrey Road. Earlier in the week, someone tried to break into the residence, and Henderson believed the intruder was looking for him.

Henderson obtained a handgun and was sleeping with the gun Wednesday night. When Giddens got up during the night to check the locks on the doors, Henderson heard the noise and fired the shot not knowing the target was his sister.

A warrant was obtained for Henderson on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He was arrested at his sister's residence and booked into CCC. Bond was set at $30,000.

Henderson's nephew, Kevin Giddens, Jr., admitted he supplied the handgun and knew that Henderson was a convicted felon. He was arrested for illegally supplying a felon with a firearm. He was arrested at the same location and booked into CCC.
