Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will award an academic scholarship to Cameron Michael Jones during a ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, on the seventh floor of Government Plaza.

Jones is a graduating senior at Southwood High School where he earned a 4.3 grade point average. He will use the $500 scholarship to study Digital Media Programming and Design at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Jones is the son of Audria Jones of Shreveport.

At Southwood, Jones was a member of both the National Honor Society and the robotics team for three years. He was the lead programmer for the robotics team’s large and small robots and was part of the Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit team that placed second overall in statewide robotics competition. Jones is also assistant media director at Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church. 

Sheriffs’ scholarships are made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

"Presenting the annual Louisiana Sheriff's Scholarship to a deserving Caddo Parish student is one of the events I look most forward to each year," Prator said. "This is an investment in Cameron and in our community. I'm very proud of Cameron's accomplishments and look forward to seeing great things from him in the future."

Jones was chosen to receive Caddo’s scholarship by judges from LSUS, Bossier Parish Community College, and Centenary College.

Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character are considered in making selections of Sheriffs’ scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana and that they enroll as full-time, undergraduate students in state.
