A Shreveport woman was arrested for defrauding four different banks out of $17,470, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Karen Miller, 39, was the subject of multiple investigations by the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Unit. Sheriff’s Detective Jeremy Edward said he investigated Miller for executing a scheme against financial institutions where she deposited her payroll checks twice into different bank accounts and withdrew the funds from both banks. The loss from the banks was $8,535.

In separate investigations by Sheriff’s Detective Clarissa Harris, Miller is accused of depositing checks from closed accounts at three banks and then withdrawing the funds. The loss from the banks was $8,935.

Miller, of the 3700 block of Michigan Street, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on five counts of bank fraud. She was also charged with possession of drugs at the time of booking.
