A telephone scam is targeting registered sex offenders in Caddo Parish, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Deputies have received several reports from offenders saying they were contacted by phone by someone saying they owed fees to the Sheriff’s Office to remain compliant with their state-required sex offender registration. The caller told them to pay the fees by Green Dot card or they would go to jail. Prator said payments are never made on a Green Dot card but must be made in person at the jail.  

Anyone who receives such a call should contact the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit to confirm whether fees are actually owed. The number to call is 677-5150.
