CPSO investigating train derailment

The Caddo Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a train derailment in south Caddo, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

At this time, LA Hwy. 1 northbound is blocked at the Red River-Caddo parish line. Southbound traffic being diverted at Hwys. 1 and 175. Ellerbe Road is also closed at Hwy. 1.

The derailment occurred at 5 p.m. near Yearwood Road when a saltwater truck crossed the tracks in front of a Union Pacific train. Approximately 12-15 cars and the locomotive derailed at the front of the line and another six derailed in the rear.

Deputies on scene said there are no confirmed hazardous materials leaks, and no evacuations have been ordered.

The driver of the saltwater truck was uninjured in the accident. The engineer was transported to Willis-Knighton Pierremont by Caddo Fire District #5 with unknown injuries.

The following agencies are on scene or have been requested to respond: Caddo Sheriff's Office Patrol Division and Hazardous Materials Unit, Red River Sheriff's Office, Caddo Fire District #5, Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials Unit, Louisiana DOTD, and Union Pacific Railroad.
