Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator swore in five new reserve deputies during a ceremony at the Sheriff’s Re-entry Facility on September 17.

Taking the Oath of Office were Brandon Bounds, Cody Daniels, Dave Morgan, Matt Richardson, and Garrett Turner.

Reserve deputies are POST-qualified law enforcement officers with similar training and authority to full-time deputies; however, they volunteer their service to the Sheriff’s Office without pay. 

Reserves go through the same hiring process as full-time sheriff’s employees. Each of the new reserve deputies received a minimum of 100 hours of training in areas such as firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, first aid, and Louisiana law.

The Caddo Sheriff Office Reserve Unit currently includes 50 deputies who come from many professions and walks of life. For example, the new reserves are four Shreveport firefighters and one Barksdale airman.

To be a reserve deputy you must meet minimal fitness standards, be at least 21 years old, and be able to volunteer at least 120 hours each year. For additional information about the Caddo Sheriff’s Reserve Program, contact Reserve Captain Phillip Deaton at 453-5138.
