Husband arrested for attacking wife with hammer and knife

Caddo Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a man for attacking his wife with a hammer and a knife, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Jeffery Callender, 51, of the 8900 block of Park Haven Place in Shreveport, was arrested for attempted murder and false imprisonment of his wife following the domestic violence incident at the couple’s home on September 13.  

Detectives said the victim reported that her husband attacked her while they were leaving to attend his scheduled court appearance. She said he hit her head with a hammer twice, took her phone, and would not let her leave the house. After the hammer attack, he grabbed a knife and stabbed her more than a dozen times in her upper body and once in the neck. She said he left the house by stealing her car. The victim was able to able to contact a friend, who called 911. She was transported to Ochsner LSU Health for medical treatment.

An arrest warrant was issued for Callender, who was captured by the US Marshals Task Force in Meridian, Mississippi, on September 19.

Callender was transported and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on September 20. He was charged with one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and one count of False Imprisonment with a Dangerous Weapon. His bond is set at $157,000.
