Sheriff Prator offers special driver training to churches and non-profits

Drivers who operate passenger vans for churches and non-profit organizations can now receive specialized training in the safe handling of their vehicle, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

“These drivers, many of whom are volunteers, are often asked to transport children or other Caddo Parish citizens to events, camps, and social functions. We want to make sure each driver is properly trained and equipped to handle this responsibility so everyone arrives at their destination safely," Prator said.

The course was developed at the Sheriff's request by instructors with the Caddo Sheriff's Regional Training Academy. It covers specifics of defensive driving for operators of passenger vans. All components of the course are taught in the classroom, so it is not necessary to drive a van to the training site.

The course will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, November 19, at Sheriff’s Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Ave. in Shreveport. It is free to all churches and non-profit agencies in the area. Pre-registration is required, and Caddo Parish residents will be given priority.
