Caddo Sheriff plans reserve deputy academy

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for persons interested in becoming a Reserve Deputy.

Reserve Deputies are volunteers who complete state-mandated training similar to the training of full-time sheriff’s deputies. They are used to supplement full-time law enforcement officers and are subject to the same rules and regulations as full-time employees of the Caddo Sheriff’s Office. Reserves are qualified to carry a weapon and make arrests.

Training for the next Reserve Academy is scheduled to begin in the spring, but is contingent on meeting a minimum required number of candidates. The Reserve Academy is typically conducted to coincide with the hours that a volunteer might be available, such as Tuesday and Thursday nights, and Saturday mornings.  Classes will take place at the Caddo Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy, located at 15639 Highway One South.

Applicants are subject to the same strict hiring standards as paid employees. Reserve Deputies must be at least 21 years of age and have no criminal record. They must successfully pass all Academy training and field training, followed by a minimum monthly service requirement.

Persons interested in applying should contact the Personnel Division of the Caddo Sheriff’s Office at 681-0812. The deadline to apply is 5PM Friday, February 14.  Applications can be obtained online at www.caddosheriff.org.

For additional information, contact the Caddo Sheriff's Academy at 681-0735; Reserve Capt. Phillip Deaton at 453-5138; or the Personnel Division.
