Caddo Sheriff reminds property owners of pre-pay tax option

Sheriff Steve Prator is reminding Caddo Parish property owners that they can pre-pay their taxes to avoid lump sum end-of-the-year payments.

Taxpayers can estimate their own future tax liability and divide their payments throughout the year. Payments made either monthly or quarterly are deposited into an escrow account and applied to property tax bills when they come due at the end of the year. Any additional taxes owed after the escrowed payments are billed on the annual tax notice. Overpayments are credited to the next year’s taxes.

Participants can access their escrow account on-line at www.caddosheriff.org and view their payment history and account balance.

Pre-payments are accepted from January 1 through October 20, Prator said.

To participate in the pre-paid tax program, submit a signed application to the Sheriff’s Office Tax Department along with the prior year’s tax notice or document listing the property description and related account numbers. A copy of the application can be obtained by clicking on the tax button at caddosheriff.org or by visiting the Tax Department at the Caddo Parish Courthouse, 501 Texas Street, Room 101, in Shreveport.

For additional information, contact the Tax Department at 681-0638.
