Caddo Sheriff announces occupant protection checkpoint

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said deputies will conduct an occupant protection checkpoint on March 31, 2014 in the southern part of Caddo Parish. The checkpoint will be conducted in the evening time.

Deputies on regular patrol and those working overtime on a Louisiana Highway Safety Commission grant will be looking to make sure motorists are buckling up and wearing their seatbelt properly.

All children should be properly secured in age-appropriate child restraints that are properly installed in the vehicle. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office offers free child safety seat checkups by appointment at its substations and Sheriff's Safety Town.

About two-thirds of people killed in crashes locally over the past five years were unrestrained. Research indicates that proper restraint use is the best way to reduce the chance of injury or death from a motor vehicle crash.

Sheriff Prator reminds everyone to buckle up on every trip. Don't drink and drive, and report unsafe driving to your local law enforcement agency.
