Caddo Sheriff’s K-9 Victor passed away this morning due to a medical condition, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Victor was a Belgian Malinois purchased by the Sheriff’s Office in 2007. He was a dual purpose dog trained in patrol work and narcotics detection. His only handler was Cpl. Marcus Green.

Victor was over 10 years old, according to Sgt. Chris Bane, who heads up the Sheriff’s K-9 Unit. He began showing signs of illness last week and was taken to North Shreveport Animal Hospital where he was diagnosed as being in the early stages of kidney and liver failure. He also had an enlarged heart. He passed away at the animal hospital this morning.

“Victor was a great asset to our K-9 Unit and provided a valuable service to the citizens of Caddo Parish,” Prator said. “He will certainly be missed.”

Plans are underway to lay Victor to rest at the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 Rest cemetery located at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy.
