Caddo deputies are investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred early this morning near Vivian, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Around 1:40 a.m., deputies along with Caddo Fire District #8 responded to a crash on Highway 2 between Caldwell Briggs Road and Centerville Road. A driver of 1993 Chevrolet Silverado ran off the road, struck a utility pole and hit several trees before coming to a rest. The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

According to Sgt. Michael Vaitkus of the Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit, the driver was identified as 28 year old James D. Adams of Vivian.  Adams sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to North Caddo Medical Center. Life Air Rescue was unavailable due to the weather conditions. Sgt. Vaitkus said alcohol consumption and excessive speed were believed to be the primary factors for the cause of the crash. There were no other occupants.

Adams was charged with 1st offense DWI. The crash remains under investigation by the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
