12 cited for selling alcohol to underage persons

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Division conducted an investigation into the illegal sale of alcohol to underage persons on Wednesday, and nearly half of all businesses checked sold to people under the age of 21, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Prator said deputies checked 27 businesses throughout the parish, and employees at 12 of the businesses violated the law by selling alcohol to an 18 year old. Only one of the 12 clerks cited even asked for an ID. On that occasion, the teen presented an ID clearly showing they were underage. The clerk then overrode the data in the store’s computer to allow the sale.

“It may have been April Fool’s Day but what’s going on here is certainly no joke,” Prator said. “As Spring Break and prom season approach, we want businesses to take the issue of underage drinking seriously. Everyone has a part to play in keeping our kids safe. Keeping alcohol out of the hands of teenagers and young drivers is a very important part of that.”

Those cited for unlawful sales to persons under 21 and their places of employment are:

1. Milisa Dryden, 28, of Vivian, Elsie’s Truck Stop, 7101 Hwy. One, Shreveport;

2.  Mary Baldwin, 54, Blanchard, Longwood General Store,  3502 North Hwy. 169, Mooringsport;

3. Andrea Spicer, 49, Deberry, Texas, Relay Station, 9110 Hwy. 79, Greenwood;

4. Charlene Pullen, 29, Bethany, Lickskillet Liquor, 10106 Hwy. 70, Bethany;

5. Debra Day, 26, Keithville, H&H Grocery, 9504 Springridge Texas State Line Road, Springridge; (Day was also summonsed for no ABO card.)

6. Maurice Ebarb, 83, Keithville, General Store, 6230 Colquitt Road,  Keithville;

7.  Amanda Echols, 37, Keithville, S&A Truck Stop, 12300 Mansfield    Road, Keithville;  * (This is Echols second arrest for unlawful sales to persons under 21.)

8. Amanda Newsom, 32,  Keithville, Crawdaddy’s, 12298 Mansfield Road, Keithville. (Newsom was also summonsed for no ABO card.)

9. Tiffany Nye, 45, Keithville, Circle K #881, 11730 Mansfield Road, Keithville;

10. Dorothy Evans, 53, Shreveport, Food Fast #84 Exxon, 5875 North Market, Shreveport;

11. Deanna Johnson, 25,  Bossier City, Easy Mart #1, 201 Hwy. One, Oil City; and

12. Crystal Armstrong, 32, Vivian, Cash Magic, 14347 Hwy One, Vivian.
