Program to offer seniors information on protecting their investments

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator is offering a free class to teach seniors how to protect their nest egg by avoiding investment scams.

The class is from 9 - 11:15 a.m., Thursday, May 21, at the Caddo Sheriff’s Re-Entry Facility, 1121 Forum Drive.

Investors over the age of 50 are generally top targets for con artists perpetrating investment scams, and no one is immune, Prator said.

“Even seasoned investors have been cheated out of savings, windfall insurance payments, and even the equity in their own homes,” he said.

Presenting the class will be Nancy Boudreaux, Training Program Manager for the Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions (OFI), Securities Division. Boudreaux uses research, interviews with the con artists, and actual investment fraud cases prosecuted in Louisiana to illustrate the red flags of investment scams.

The class is free but pre-registration is required. Call 681-0875 to register or receive more information.
