Erin Arcement is the recipient of an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Scholarship Program, Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator announced today.

Arcement is a resident of Shreveport and a graduating senior at C.E. Byrd High School. She will use the $500 scholarship to study kinesiology/pre-physical therapy at Louisiana Tech University. Arcement’s parents are Corey and Karen Arcement.

At Byrd, Arcement participated in many activities, including Student Council, National Honor Society, Astra Club, Lyle Leaders, Top Jackets, and Varsity Soccer, where she served as team captain.

Sheriffs’ scholarships are made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program. Scholarships will be awarded in 60 parishes throughout the state.

Forty students applied for the Caddo scholarship. The recipient was selected by representatives of LSUS, Southern University-Shreveport, Bossier Parish Community College, and Centenary College.

Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character are considered in making selections of Sheriffs’ scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana and that applicants enroll as full-time, undergraduate students in state.
