Officials report few changes overnight

Caddo officials reported few changes this morning as they awaited official word that the Red River had crested.

All levees continue to hold, and levee officials are staying on top of isolated areas with pumping operations. Public safety reported no new changes in area neighborhoods.

Of immediate concern is that citizens be discouraged from using the Red River for recreational purposes or sight-seeing ventures. The wake left by boats is causing further problems for affected residents in the area. Only private launches are currently open.

  • The Northwest Louisiana Red Cross will be in affected areas today, including the neighborhoods of Martin Luther King Drive, Allendale, and Les Maisons, to distribute water, cleaning supplies, and first aid supplies.
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is postponing its Youth Firearms Safety Education Camp scheduled for June 15-19 at the Training Academy located near Lock and Dam #5. New dates for the camp will be announced in the near future.
  • Two sandbag locations are available. They are Parish Public Works, 1701 Monty Street, and City Streets and Drainage, 3825 Mansfield, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (with assistance) and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (unassisted).
  • The Red Cross is operating shelters in Caddo Parish at the LSU-S Red River Radio Building, 8675 Youree Drive, and at Southern University-Shreveport in the gymnasium, 3052 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
