VOAD plans Resource Center to assist Caddo flood victims

Caddo Parish residents whose homes were damaged or impacted by recent flooding can receive assistance all in one place this week at a Multi-Agency Resource Center organized by the Northwest Louisiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).

Trained caseworkers from several non-profit organizations will be available to help evaluate the immediate recovery needs of flood victims and also help residents navigate paperwork and locate assistance for their specific disaster-caused needs such food, clothing, and cleaning supplies. Representatives from the American Red Cross, Caddo Parish School Board Homeless Program, Catholic Charities, Community Resource Management, Food Bank of NW Louisiana, Goodwill Industries, St Vincent de Paul Society and other disaster relief organizations will be on hand.

The Resource Center will operate:

  • Wednesday, June 24, from 10am – 2 pm, at Southern University- Shreveport Gymnasium, 3050 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive;
  • Friday, June 26, from 3pm – 7pm, at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, 1666 Alston Street; and
  • Saturday, June 27, from 10 am -2pm, at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, 1666 Alston Street.

There will also be organizations such as the Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief, the Mormon Helping Hands, and the United Methodist Disaster Response Team that can help those who need recovery assistance with mud cleanup, cleaning supplies, and mold remediation. Individuals and families can meet with agencies for referrals or other recovery services if your family is not eligible for government assistance or if that assistance is inadequate to meet your needs.

Individuals and families applying for assistance are required to bring identification showing address and proof of residence to be eligible for assistance from some agencies.
