Last suspect arrested in cable ID theft case

The last of 11 suspects wanted in a local identity theft case turned himself in to the Caddo Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Michael Jones, 39, of Palmetto, GA, one of the suspected ringleaders in the multi-million dollar theft case, reported to the Caddo Correctional Center where he was booked on 107 counts of identity theft and one count of criminal conspiracy.

Jones and the other suspects were wanted for a scheme in which more than 1,200 stolen identities from the southeastern United States were used to open fraudulent cable accounts in Caddo Parish (see original release from 4/28/15).

Warrants for the 11 suspects were announced by Sheriff Prator and Detective Bobby Herring in April. All suspects have now been located and arrested. One suspect, Charles Smith, is in custody in Genesee County, New York, where he faces other charges. The others either remain in Caddo Correctional Center or have since bonded out.
