Gustav Update: 9/3/08

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said his department is preparing to send deputies south to assist with enforcement duties in hurricane-striken south Louisiana.

The Louisiana Sheriff's Association Task Force, of which the Caddo Sheriff's Office is a participant, requested the deputies. The Task Force provides mutual aid for sheriff's offices in the event of an emergency.

Prator said 10 deputies will be leaving within the hour. They will take a travel trailer, generator, and patrol vehicles to provide their own lodging and transportation while in south Louisiana. It is not yet known where they will be stationed or exactly what their job assignment will be.

Caddo deputies arrested two people sheltered at Hirsch Coliseum today for disturbing the peace by fighting.

Cpl. John May said as he turned onto the fairgrounds this afternoon he witnessed a 19-year-old female, Jaranike Stalbert, of New Orleans, involved in a fist fight with Byron Millet, 28, of Metairie. The two were fighting in the middle of Edgar Street. They did not say specifically what they were fighting about, but they know each other, May said.

Both were taken to Caddo Correctional Center. Stalbert is a relative of two people arrested on Tuesday for inciting a riot at Hirsch.
