An 18-wheeler hauling logs crashed on Hwy. 789 in Springridge today, trapping its driver underneath the cargo, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

The truck was traveling south when the driver, 69-year-old James Martin of Kilgore, Texas, lost control while coming out of a curve. The load shifted, separating the cab from the trailer and spilling logs onto the road, according to Patrol Sgt. Richard Smith. A citizen found Martin near the rear of the trailer trapped under several logs. It is not known how Martin got there. Martin was airlifted to University Health where he is still receiving treatment.

Hwy. 789 south of Hwy. 169 was closed for several hours today after the crash. Details remain under investigation by the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
