Sheriff Prator warns public of text scam

A new twist to a phishing scam involving WESLA Federal Credit Union has resurfaced in Caddo Parish. Caddo residents have been receiving texts purporting to be from WESLA Federal Credit Union. The texts inform the recipients their debit cards have been locked. A phone number is provided along with instructions on how to unlock the debit card.

Sheriff Steve Prator is warning residents not to respond to the texts or give out any personal information to include bank account numbers. Detectives assigned to the Caddo – Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force are working with the FBI to investigate the matter.

Anyone who has responded to a text by providing bank account information is urged to contact the Caddo – Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force at 318-681-0770.
