Caddo responds to recent flooding

Caddo Sheriff's deputies have been working through the night in response to recent flooding and in preparation for more flooding to come, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Reports of high water, flooding, downed trees, intermittent road closures, and rescues have kept deputies busy. Road closings will be posted on the Caddo Sheriff's Facebook page and through releases on the CPSO website as they are announced.

The following activities have been reported:

- Eleven people were evacuated overnight from the Greenway Apartments in Greenwood and taken to Cowboy Church for shelter. Caddo deputies and Fire Districts are currently evacuating single family homes in the 700 block of Self Road in Belcher, 11039 Colt Trail, and at the end of Riding Club Lane (marine rescue) in south Caddo. Sherwood Apartments on Mansfield Road are also threatened by high water.

- Trees are reported down on Providence Road, Nottingham, and Preston. Pinehill @ Winchester is expected to be closed all day because of a fallen tree and low power lines.

- Vivian Airport Road is closed due to high, fast moving water.

- Water is approaching the Twin Bridges on Colquitt Road between Harper and Breckenridge.

 - The Sheriff's Office and Livestock Brand Commission have placed stock trailers on the north and south end of the parish. Ranchers in need of relocating livestock can contact CPSO at 675-2170 for assistance.

- Caddo residents with flooding INSIDE their homes should make an immediate report to Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at 675-2255 or reportdamages@caddosheriff.org.

- Caddo Parish has officially declared a State of Emergency in response to flooding. This allows the parish to access state and federal resources.

- Sandbags can be obtained from Caddo Public Works at 1701 Monty Street.

- Deputies report that many citizens are driving around barricades causing their vehicles to stall and become stranded. Deputies are reminding citizens that ignoring a barricade is against the law and will result in a ticket and hefty fine.

- The Caddo Sheriff's Office is working extra patrols to address flooding. Shifts are being held over while deputies assigned to other areas of the department like civil, warrants, Internal Affairs, and school resource officers are pitching in with patrol duties. Reserve and auxiliary deputies were also called in and are lending a hand.
