CPSO, city to recognize dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

Officials will recognize 911 dispatchers for their dedication and work this week.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office and City of Shreveport will take part in the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which spans from Sunday, April 10, to Saturday, April 16, Sheriff Steve Prator said.

This week, sponsored by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens.

A recognition ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the 911 Center, 1144 Texas Avenue. Sheriff Prator and Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler will present proclamations recognizing the work of sheriff’s, police, and fire dispatchers.

“We are fortunate to have some of the most professional and dedicated dispatchers working right here in Caddo Parish,” Prator said. “They are the first voice our deputies hear when they are in trouble and the first people our citizens reach out to when they need help. Without their commitment, devotion, and hard work, countless number of lives and property would be in jeopardy.”
