Caddo Emergency Preparedness monitoring weather conditions

The Caddo Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is continuing to monitor heavy rainfall in the area to ensure the safety of parish residents, said Sheriff Steve Prator, director of the local office.

Officials with the National Weather Service said portions of the Shreveport-Bossier metro area experienced around six inches of rainfall on Monday with isolated areas receiving even more. Most areas can expect an additional one to two inches with up to three inches possible across North Louisiana. The NWS has issued a flash flood watch through Thursday afternoon.

Currently there is no water reported in any homes or businesses in Caddo Parish. Caddo Sheriff's officials report only one road closure in rural parts of the parish – Keithville Kingston at the Desoto Parish line.

Citizens are urged to use caution in flooded areas. Do not drive through high water. If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can do so safely. Keep in mind, “Turn around. Don’t drown.” Do not walk in moving water.

Prator said citizens should use this time to register for CodeRED, an emergency notification system that will call/text residents in the event of a potential or pending emergency.  It is a free service to the citizens of Caddo Parish.
