Caddo Sheriff to award scholarship

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will award an academic scholarship to Belcher resident Jonathan David Reich, Jr., during a ceremony at 11:15 a.m. Monday, May 16, on the seventh floor of Government Plaza.

Reich is a graduating senior at Northwood High School where he earned a 4.0 grade point average. He will use the $500 scholarship to study engineering and business at Louisiana Tech University. Reich’s parents are Jonathan David Reich, Sr., and Tamra Renee Stiles.

At Northwood, Reich participated in Key Club, Student Council, baseball, and Cross Country. He was vice president of the school’s National Honor Society, was a Student of the Year finalist, placed first in the state Social Studies Fair two out of three years, was a Boys State ambassador, an LASC delegate, and performed over 400 hours of community service.

Sheriffs’ scholarships are made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

Reich was chosen to receive Caddo’s scholarship by judges from LSUS, Southern University-Shreveport, Bossier Parish Community College, and Centenary College.

Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character are considered in making selections of Sheriffs’ scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana and that they enroll as full-time, undergraduate students in state.
