Phone scammers claiming to be CPSO deputy

Phone scammers are calling people in the local area claiming to be the Caddo Sheriff's Office and asking for money, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

The scam is similar to one that has circulated before in our area. The caller identifies himself as a Caddo Sheriff's deputy and asks for money to satisfy an alleged fine or outstanding warrant. In the most recent case, the caller demanded money to be delivered to the Caddo Courthouse even though the Courthouse is closed.

"This can be extremely dangerous," said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator. "This is not how we do business, nor would we ever ask that you meet us outside the Courthouse to pay a fine." Prator said never wire or hand over money to strangers. You can call the Sheriff's Office at 675-2170 to verify any business with the Sheriff's Office.
