The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a Reserve Deputy Academy, expected to begin on September 7, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Reserves are volunteer deputies. This level reserve deputy receives a minimum of 100 hours of POST training in areas such as firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, first aid, and Louisiana law. The Reserve Academy will be held two nights each week and on Saturdays for eight weeks.

The Caddo Sheriff Office Reserve Unit currently includes 50 deputies who come from many professions and walks of life. Reserves go through the same hiring process as full-time sheriff’s employees. They must meet minimal fitness standards, be at least 21 years old, and be able to volunteer at least 120 hours each year.

The deadline to apply is July 5 by 5 p.m. Applications can be obtained by visiting www.caddosheriff.org. Go to “Careers” tab and click on “Application Process.”  They can also be picked up from the Sheriff’s Office at 505 Travis Street in Shreveport or downloaded from the attached QR code. For additional information, contact Reserve Captain Phillip Deaton at 453-5138.
