Pedestrian dies in overnight accident

Caddo Sheriff’s deputies responded to an overnight accident that left a pedestrian dead in west Shreveport, according to Sheriff Steve Prator.

Just after 11 p.m., deputies and Caddo Parish Fire District No. 4 were dispatched to West Bert Kouns and South Shrevepark regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The victim, Nicholas Meziere, 26, from the Monroe area, was found deceased in the roadway.

Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Gray, of the Caddo Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit, said an investigation revealed Meziere and another man crossed Bert Kouns to fire some fireworks. Afterward, as they headed back across the road, Meziere dropped some of the fireworks trash he was carrying. When he stopped to pick it up, he was struck by a 2003 Honda vehicle. Moments later, a second passing vehicle, a 2002 Chevy Monte, struck the victim while he was lying in the roadway.

The accident remains under investigation.
