Caddo deputies called to Baton Rouge

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator has dispatched 10 Caddo deputies to Baton Rouge at the request of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Task Force.

The deputies are from the CPSO Patrol Division and are all members of the Task Force which provides mutual aid across the state in the event of emergencies. They will assist the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office with patrol duties through at least Monday.

The deputies will leave Caddo Parish at 3 p.m. today. They will be sworn in by EBP Sheriff Sid Gautreaux before starting their first shift tonight. They will ride with EBPSO deputies in two-man units and answer calls for service from citizens.

Caddo deputies will be supplementing East Baton Rouge deputies who have been working around-the-clock following protests and also the line-of-duty deaths of an EBRPSO deputy and two Baton Rouge police officers.

This is the second time CPSO deputies have been called to assist in Baton Rouge. Two weeks ago they responded to give aid during protests and civil unrest in the city.

“It’s been a long few weeks for our Baton Rouge counterparts,” Prator said. “They are our brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and we’re ready to do our part to help out,”
