Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said residents should beware of a scam where they’re told to pay a certain amount of money to receive a larger amount of money.

A Keithville resident was contacted by phone and told she had won $2 million but needed to pay $999 on a gift card in order to claim her prize. Bank officials alerted the Sheriff’s Office when the victim came to the bank to withdraw money to purchase the gift card.

The Sheriff continues to remind residents that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. “If something seems fishy, contact the Caddo Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit to check it out. Never give money to a stranger who has contacted you on the phone with get-rich-quick promises.”
