Caddo Sheriff announces promotion, awards

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator has announced the promotion of John Childress to the rank of sergeant. Childress was officially recognized during a ceremony on Tuesday, March 21, at the Re-Entry Facility on Forum Drive.

Childress joined the Sheriff’s Office in June 2010. He has worked in Security, Booking, and Training. With his promotion, he will serve as a supervisor in the Special Investigations Unit at Caddo Correctional Center. Childress has participated as an instructor at the Caddo Sheriff’s Youth Firearms Education Camp and holds a bachelor of science degree.

Receiving recognition for their years of service with the Caddo Sheriff’s Office were Derrick Lars, LaPorsha Williams, Jonathan Reich, and Anna Sweeney, five years; Jacqueline Daughtery, Greg McGee, Dennis Williams, James S. Dunn, Nickie Mastrodomenico, Kip Jones, Tamika Brewer, Demarrio Malone, John C. May, and E.J. Parker, 10 years; Terry Moore and Jennifer Jackson, 15 years; Dionne Freeman, Vernecia Webster, Chad Andrews, and Erik Lawrence, 20 years; Mark Gay, 25 years; and Lanell Blackshire, 30 years.  

Sheriff Prator presented a Lifesaving Award to Cpl. Randal Terrell for his response to a call involving a man who hanged himself following a domestic incident in January. Deputy Roosevelt Tadlock, Deputy Magalene Boykin, and Cpl. Joel Griffin received Commendation Certificates for also rendering aid during the incident.

Cpl. Kevin Harris and Deputy Brandi Linson were also presented Lifesaving Awards for rescuing a passenger from a burning vehicle on LA Hwy. 3132 in December and using a fire extinguish to battle the fire until fire personnel could arrive on scene.
