Caddo Sheriff deputies are investigating an early morning fatal crash on I-20 just across the Louisiana state line from Texas, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Just after midnight on Saturday, the Caddo Sheriff's Office along with Caddo Fire District 3 responded to Interstate 20 where a vehicle was struck by a large tire and wheel. Deputies said a 2017 GMC Yukon traveling eastbound was struck by a tire coming off of a westbound truck and trailer. The tire, which had the wheel and other parts attached, went through the Yukon windshield, striking the passenger.

The passenger, Afshin Riaz, 38, of Oklahoma was deceased at the scene. The vehicle was being driven by the husband of the deceased. The couples four children were also passengers. The children and husband received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Investigators assigned to the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit are continuing to investigate  the crash. Investigators have recovered video footage of the incident from interstate cameras. Investigators have also issued a BOLO  to Texas DPS to be on the lookout for a truck and cattle trailer missing a wheel. Anyone with information involving this incident is asked to contact the Caddo Sheriff's Office at 318-675-2170
