Sheriff's Safety Town to receive $75,000 donation from S-B Junior League

Sheriff's Safety Town is in line to receive one of its largest donations to date at a luncheon Thursday celebrating the Shreveport-Bossier Junior League's 75th anniversary.

Sheriff Steve Prator will receive a $75,000 check from the Junior League, making the organization a major partner in the Sheriff's effort to keep kids safe. In recognition of the gift, an outdoor pavilion in the heart of Safety Town will be named the "Junior League Pavilion."

Thursday's luncheon, which begins at 11:30 a.m. at East Ridge Country Club, is open to the public. The cost to attend is $20.

Sheriff's Safety Town is a child-size town with miniature streets, buildings, crosswalks, working traffic lights and a railroad crossing where children will practice safety skills in a safe environment. It's currently under construction at Jewella Road and the Inner Loop in south Shreveport.

"As a law enforcement officer, there's nothing more tragic than to witness the senseless and preventable death or injury of a child," Prator said. "I am extremely grateful to the Junior League for recognizing the urgency in our community to educate every child about safety so they can grow up and live happy and healthy lives. The Junior League donation is not only generous, but a significant step forward for this project."

League President Tracy Prestwood added that this gift ?is a symbol of the commitment this organization has held for the last 75 years in the Shreveport-Bossier community. Our members are proud of the community we live in and we want to work to continue to make it a better place for years to come.?
