Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator awarded an academic scholarship to Skylore Rae Henderson this morning during a presentation at Government Plaza.

Henderson is a graduating senior at Captain Shreve High School where she earned a 4.4 grade point average. She will use the $500 scholarship to study nursing at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. Henderson is the daughter of Shereaz and Tella Henderson of Shreveport.

At Captain Shreve, Henderson was vice president of the National Honor Society, a distinguished scholar, president of the Beta Alpha Xinos/Kudos Service Organization, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, regional secretary of Southwest Region Debutantes, and was named Ms. AHEC and Most Professional for Area Health Education Centers.

Sheriffs’ scholarships are made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

Henderson was chosen to receive Caddo’s scholarship by judges from LSUS, Bossier Parish Community College, and Centenary College.

Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character are considered in making selections of Sheriffs’ scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana and that they enroll as full-time, undergraduate students in state.
